I have been doing some research into European and Central American Power Plants. Some are very high tech turbines and need a specific fuel to operate, but most are run with heavy oil generators. Using heavy oil generators to produce electricity eases the burden on "cleaning-up" a fuel. These heavy oil units run on almost any type of heavy oil as long at it is a hydrocarbon oil. Bunker fuels, diesels, etc....these units are used all over the world.
