Paul
Yeah,

I figured that's what you probably meant Paul, and while it irks me/us no end that we'v lined the pockets and nests of SO many murderous fanatics, I still blame ourselves AND the leaders we've continued to select AND the infernal special interests that KEEP us joined at the hip and dependent on those countries.

Ironic isn't it, that one of the biggest threats we face in this modern era, is one we've been financing and enabling for decades. It is humanity's lot in life that the one who most often shoots you in the foot is... yourself. It's part of the reason we know that we are living in a MORAL universe...

Have a good day Paul!

Scroll down to middle of page where the following link is:

Letter to EPA Administrator Johnson from Governor Perry (PDF) (3 pp, 129K)

Seems food-based ethanol is creating quite a quandary for Texas...so much so that they are asking the EPA for a waiver.

I direct you to page 2, second paragraph from the bottom

"It is vitally important that the Federal government address skyrocketing fuel prices, but the solution should be through increased production and more non-grain alternative fuel sources, and not through policies that artificially drive up food prices and negatively impact Texas' otherwise strong economy."

Given our company and their mission, not to mention their location (TX), it would appear we can fill that void (non-grain alternative fuel sources).

Let's get this thing out of the gate.
What I wonder is...

a) how the EPA will handle their request and

b) since ALL gov't right now, local, state, and federal are all DYING for new paradigms and disruptive technology and searching for it like needles in haystacks and wanting it "some kind of bad", what efforts JR & Co. are making to have dialogue with the governor of Texas and the EPA and big oil to get some help developing and bringing to market the very thing EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER is begging for!

I wonder if Mr. Hoerr and Mr. Ford and AmSpec, along with John, are putting forth efforts to dialogue with these people...

I agree, the need for alternatives to imported oil should be our main focus. I believe we can make it happen. If they can do it in Brazil, we should be able to make it happen here as well.

But, I say, it doesn't have to be that way.

Hey Mickey! The letter you ref: earlier today got more press. Found this at Biofuels Digest - The Daily Source for Biofuels News

Thought it interesting...
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Secretary of Agriculture takes offensive in support of biofuels as EPA opens comments period on ethanol mandate waiver.

In Washington, US Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer kicked off a response to recent attacks on biofuels, saying that fuel diversity is central to US security and added “The change in the Renewable Fuels Standard, the change in the (ethanol) tariff or duty, isn’t going to effect food prices. We need to focus on things that will actually have an effect, instead of a short-term political solution we need to look long-term, because we have a long-term problem here.”

Meanwhile, Sen. Chuck Grassley accused food manufacturers of a “smear campaign” against biofuels and sent a letter to companies such as ConAgra and Archer Daniels Midland asking them to repudiate the Grocery Manufacturers Association PR campaign to assemble a “global; center-left coalition” against biofuels. Secretary Schafer said that companies participating in the campaign against ethanol told him that while they understood that higher energy and transport costs are the driver of price increases “it’s easier” to target biofuels.

Also in Washington, the EPA is accepting comments for 30 days on the requests by the Governor of Texas to waive the Renewable Fuel Standard. More information on the request and how to comment is here. The EPA is required to respond by July 25, according to the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act.

Texas Governor Rick Perry requested a 50 per cent waiver from the federal renewable fuel standard as a response to rapidly rising food prices. “We appreciate the good intentions behind the push for renewable fuels,” Perry said in a statement. “In fact, we’re diversifying our state’s energy portfolio at a rapid rate, but this misguided mandate is significantly affecting Texans’ family food bill. There are multiple factors contributing to our skyrocketing grocery prices, but a waiver of RFS levels is the best, quickest way to reduce those costs before permanent damage is done.”

“Ultimately, food prices are reaching high levels, so we’re looking at this as an option for reducing that burden,” said Allison Castle, a spokeswoman for Gov. Perry, told cattlenetwork.com. State have sought temporary waivers from EPA mandates in the past, but this is one of the first permanent waivers, and may cause ethanol quotas for other states to increase.

The Renewable Fuel Standard, and state biofuels mandates, have come under increasing scrutiny since the passage of the Energy Security and Independence Act over food price concerns.

Also at Biofuels Digest...

...an interesting poll. Check it out everybody, though admittedly, personal opinion or preference probably isn't the best way to participate in it.

I would think the best results would be obtained by industry folk who know a lot about all the different processes and can render a relatively informed vote.

Thanks great perspective getter, it's great to see the backyard boys getting to grips in their own way with alternatives ,and the more profesional alternatives succeeding As they say "Needs must when the Devil drives"

Brazil had to do something when they started with ethanol their backs were to the wall.I don't think many policy makers are able to see any further than their term of office.

There are great things happening in the USA and Europe re-alternatives.It has all come from the grass roots, regardless of anti lobby groups.Even they will say thank you behind the backs of those that succeed in shifting the grip of the power moguls, who are scewing us.When the going gets tough the tough get going.

The industrial revolution for all it's ills gave us the start to where we are today.I reckon that the internet is the latest revolution to communicate. The next biggy is the alternative energy revolution which has started and is growing rapidly. THE PAIN IS THE KICK START OF GAIN

$ 5.00 A Gallon

Wow!! $5 a gallon you should be so lucky,

Your gallon is what 3,5 litres?

I am paying for diesel at this moment £1.30 a litre in the UK.
That makes £1.30 x 3.5 = £4.55 per US gln

Exchange rate at the bank aprox $2 to the £1

so give a few cents we pay aprox $9 a US gln. Does that sound painful to you guy's cos it certainly great if your a masochist.Which I assure you I am not. I can put up with a bit of pain in the short run, stiffens the back bone you know, but not for fun, and this ain't fun.

So lets open up the moderator and let the oil flow, cos we need a shot of the old pain relief.Well I do anyway.
