but power and greed among our own radical lobbies political leaders. Religion ain't our problem, the lack of it is. INSUFFICIENT RELIGION (of the Judeo-Christian variety and all its ethics/values that played such a part in making this country great to begin with). Our government has forgotten that God appointed leaders and leadership structures to bring justice and well-being to the people they lead.

I blame our own leadership more than anything and anyone else. It's OUR leadership that hasn't built a refinery in 20 years, OUR leadership that's muzzled nuclear energy, and OUR leadership that's refused to develop all the resources we have from the Gulf of Mexico to Alaska and all the coal and oil in between. So it's OUR leadership that's kept us going "hat in hand" to the Saudi's to "beg" them to do what we could now be doing for ourselves. Thank-you Mr. Bush! That was SO dignified. Your visit underscored, italicized, and bold-faced the extent WE have let THEM put us over a barrel !!!

Mickeynu's right! If Brazil could do it, why not us?!? We're not the 'lead dog' anymore 'cause we traded Rin Tin Tin in for Goofy!

Oh, and one more thing. If it IS our leaders that are primarily responsible for OUR policies and where WE are at this moment, then, that makes it OUR fault for voting these people in term after term. What are WE thinking and when will we summon enough gumption and awareness to rise up, hold these so-called leaders accountable, and THROW THE INCUMBENT BUMS OUT ?!?

Drivel

Hungry for news not for drivel , well you give us some news and we will not need to keep the board ticking over waiting. What is worse than drivel would be an empty post board, that no one would visit because of no news or advice. If you have any suggestions I for one would welcome them,a way of getting news, and advice, would be great. In the mean time drivel drivel drivel and more frustrating drivel

Power Greed definitly religion poses another discussion. Religion itself does absolutly nothing it is in itself with out movement or energy or direction. It is completely inert just as a car parked in your garage there is only one thing that makes it move, the human. You get in your car start it up and point it in the direction you wish to go.Depending on how you obey or ignore the rules for driving dictates if the car becomes a killing machine the car does not know how to kill. But the death toll of thousands and hundreds of thousands injured each year on the roads are blamed on the car it us you me our own kin neibours every one who drives are potential killers, not the car, it is terrible to think you in the USA we in UK are killing and maiming each other just to get from A to B it is complete madness. I once read that if the statistics for the mahem caused on the roads, the car would not have been allowed.Talk about banning guns. We certainly live in a strange world, where gun deaths claim more publicity than the deaths on the road.Religion is the same as the car those that climb into the robes of their religion breaths life into their religion, it becomes alive. They then choose how they wish to use their religion for good or for bad, safe journey for everyone or kill and destroy. It is not religion that dictates how it should be used it is the human.Blame the human not religion. Every human makes their own decision to act the way they do. Lust for power and greed make poor bed fellows, combined with the human we have the situation we are in today. It has never been any different, the problem just gets bigger.Sorry about the drivel just followed up on the who to blame bit. Sum it all up US not the USA just we.to blame.

'tricky tip' there Penny. I'd almost forgotten about good ole' Clark Howard! He's a tremendously handy fellow to lesson to. Thanks for the link to his site. Great resource!

A lot of broke pennyplayers around here could probably use some of his advice!! He's all over Southern California, but I haven't caught him up here in Northern California yet.

Thanks again!

...this is some first class, Grade-A, premium, super-sized drivel from across the Pond. British drivel (or, brivel), is some of the best drivel in the world. And MUCH of it is very true!!!

As the program echoes my sentiments, ethanol is not the way.

It seems Brazil (and I've known this for some time myself having read it elsewhere) took the time to plan 25-30 years ago and now does not import one drop of oil.

I thought the US was supposed to be the lead dog.
If you have seen this CNN special, then marry that up with some Hollywood drama from 33 years ago (3 Days of the Condor with Robert Redford) and tell me if it doesn't strike a chord.

Though we want leadership, it is not their fault

Though we seek this leadership from those we elect into public office, it is NOT their fault. We know how beholden they are to special interests and how they let Detroit and Big Oil lead them around by the nose.

Nope. This is the fault of the US populace (myself included) for not having demanded our elected officials get this done a long time ago.

Now, we (the people) are like parents who don't follow up on announced punishment (throw the bums out). We need to be writing, protesting, marching on Washington and DEMANDING that as We the People, our leaders get this done.

Gloworm and Mickeynu are both right. Our leaders did not do what they have been elected to do - lead us properly (and they should not be in anybody's pockets but the public good!). The people, as thinking individuals with moral choice, have not done enough privately or publicly to encourage our society and leadership to do the right thing.
I, too, appreciate Gloworm's comments about religion. Education, politics, communication systems, etc. - these are all tools which can be used for good or for evil depending on the moral choices of the people doing the using.

Ethanol Producer Magazine

Saw the CNN special, it was very thought provoking, but any number of different scenarios could cause the same effect of pushing oil to over $200.00 pb and gas to over $9.00 pg.
3 Days of the Condor, great movie to watch. Thanks
