Angstrom Microsystems (ANGS.OB)

Angstrom Microsystems (ANGS) has developed innovative technologies to combat rising energy prices. As computers continue to increase in performance, the amount of energy required continues to rise. By using Angstrom’s liquid cooling, ultra-efficient power technologies and acceleration software, businesses can substantially decrease their computing costs by reducing the power needed.

Angstrom has uniquely positioned itself as a Green Computing solutions company as it provides environmentally friendly computing solutions that reduce dependence on foreign oils. The Company’s solutions stand out from the competition as they require only minimal change to existing hardware and software configuration. The markets targeted by the company are large and growing as the demand for more powerful computing solutions continues to grow.

According to a report from the Lawrence Berkeley National Labs, Data center computers use more power than all of the color televisions in the United Stated. Billions of dollars are wasted every year because of inefficient power and cooling systems. Compounding this desperate need for a solution is the increasing demand for higher performance computing squeezed into the same amount of space.

The Company has many high profile customers in the Hollywood space including Pixar, Industrial Light and Magic, Blue Sky Studios, and Fox Films. Other significant clients in various industries include Credit Suisse, DE Shaw, ConocoPhilips, Sega, Matsu****a, and EAD Airbus.

Blue Sky Studios is using the Angstrom Titan64 computers to enable significantly more complex and faster generation of movie animations.

Angstrom Microsystems specializes in Green Computing solutions, providing blade servers and workstations uniquely designed for the special effects industry. With both hardware and software solutions to reduce the power needed to drive computing, Angstrom reduces the number of machines required to facilitate these tasks and thereby saving companies significant investments into additional servers at the same time reducing the energy required to run these servers.

"Angstrom is proud to continue its close relationship with Blue Sky Studios, one of the premiere animations houses creating some of the most innovative movies today," said Lalit Jain, CEO of Angstrom Microsystems, "Angstrom has tailored its energy efficient solutions for the creative needs of Blue Sky Studios animators and post production facilities and is glad to continue its relationship since Blue Sky's last success with "Ice Age, The Meltdown," where Angstrom servers were also deployed."

"We are happy with Angstrom computing solutions and chose to continue our relationship for 'Horton Hears a Who'," said Carl Ludwig Chief Technology Officer at Blue Sky Studios. "Angstrom's ability to quickly deliver quality AMD Opteron processor-based blade solutions and provide technical assistance enabled us to easily manage and expand our growing requirements for the film."

"AMD is pleased to work with Angstrom Microsystems and Blue Sky Studios to provide the latest in high performance solutions geared towards the animation market, " said Gary Bixler, director, North America marketing, AMD. "Angstrom's use of AMD Opteron processors with industry-leading performance-per-watt helps provide a low power Green Computing solution without sacrificing performance."

ANGS.OB - Enters the Billion Dollar High Performance Computing Software Market

Angstrom Microsystems(TM) Enters the Billion Dollar High Performance Computing Software Market With Accelerated Solutions
Tuesday April 22, 4:05 pm ET

Angstrom Saves Electricity Usage in the Data Center by Reducing the Number of Computers Needed to Perform Calculations

BOSTON, MA--(MARKET WIRE)--Apr 22, 2008 -- Angstrom Microsystems Corp. (OTC BB:ANGS.OB - News), a green computing solutions company, announces today that it has developed xBlas(TM), a software that accelerates by up to 300x, a fully compatible Altas Blas(TM) linear algebra library. This significantly reduces the number of computers needed to run these calculations thereby saving electricity in the data center. Atlas Blas is a standard used by many industries as far flung as the automotive sector for designing cars using Fluent(TM) software, quantum physics in developing new solar panel solutions using Q-Chem(TM) software and to CAD/CAM to visualize complex models quickly using Autodesk(TM) software.

What makes Angstrom's xBlas product special is that it does not require additional software development on the part of the customer to see remarkable gains (up to 300x) in performance. Instead, Angstrom provides a software library that looks and functions identically to the standard Altas Blas that is in use today by the majority of high performance computing facilities worldwide. Going "the last mile" affords our customers the luxury of keeping their existing software from being split into two hard to maintain competing code bases -- a show-stopper for most of our customers. Angstrom is additionally offering this software in Angstrom servers as a turnkey solution to provide its clients with the greatest energy efficiency available on the market. Further, Angstrom will also offer this solution as a separate licensed product allowing for a broader base of clients and additional revenue stream for Angstrom.

Angstrom Microsystems specializes in Green Computing solutions, providing blade servers and workstations for high performance computing. With both hardware and software solutions to reduce the power needed to drive computing, Angstrom reduces the number of machines required to facilitate these tasks and thereby saving companies significant investments in additional servers at the same time reducing the energy required to run these servers.

"Angstrom is excited to provide an Altas Blas compatible library that not only blows the doors off of existing performance numbers, it is designed to fit hand-in-glove with any existing customer software without any significant modifications," said Lalit Jain, CEO of Angstrom Microsystems. "Angstrom has done the work to go the last mile, enabling the customer to rapidly deploy xBlas with their existing code base."

The chart above shows the Angstrom xBlas product (GPU) calculating values in a blazing half a second -- calculations that would normally take 147 seconds using the original Altas Blas software. xBlas is currently designed to perform as a single precision library.
